Our research
Research Home : research.helptheaged.org.uk : Our Research :

Man with nurseHelp the Aged is a major source of funding for ageing research in the UK.

We spend around £3 million per year on a wide range of research issues from social policy to biomedical science.

Our research aims to improve the quality of life of older people, whether through helping to alleviate the problems of older age or by providing a better understanding of age-related conditions, such as incontinence, osteoarthritis or dementia.

How do we fund research?

Biomedical research is funded in response mode through Research into Ageing. Policy research is commissioned by the Charity.

The Disconnected Mind

The Disconnected Mind is a unique research programme designed to uncover the causes of mental deterioration in later life and find ways to prevent it. Find out more about The Disconnected Mind

Funding the Oxford Institute of Ageing

In addition, we provide core funding to the Oxford Institute of Ageing (OIA) through a special relationship with the University of Oxford. The institute is one of five major university institutes of ageing and has an international reputation for research excellence.

With OIA, we fund the publication of a major new journal, Age Horizons, which is concerned with major future policy trends related to ageing.
